Description
Grazing Fields Farm has operated continuously since the 1680s.
As a horse farm, Grazing Fields became famous for a breed of Welsh ponies called Penrhyn ponies. It was the oldest Welsh breeding farm in America and at one time beef cattle, milking cows and Montadale sheep roamed the property.
At one time it supported an informal colony of artists, musicians and writers. Middle Eastern author Khalil Gibran wrote "The Prophet" there in 1925. Mark Twain was said to be a summer visitor there and Brian Davies hatched his plans to save the seals in Canada there.
