Marsh Mallow grows in salt marshes, in damp meadows, by the sides of ditches, by the sea and on the banks of tidal rivers. Marsh Mallow contains starch, mucilage, pectin, oil, sugar, asparagin, phosphate of lime, glutinous matter and cellulose. The root was formerly used to make marshmallows.
Besides the medicinal virtues of so many mallows species, some are employed as food; the bark of others affords a substitute for hemp; cotton is obtained from the seed vessels of yet other species, and many ornamental garden flowers are also members of this group such as Hibiscus and Hollyhock.

During this time of my life (mid seventies) I am enthusiastically engaged in more or less full time photography. I think that my former professional life as an Environmental Scientist and University Professor has provided me with many useful tools that I now use in my photography. Among these are observational skills, technical understanding, and, perhaps, most important, patience. In short, I am comfortable with the mechanics of my camera and the nuances of the computer software that I use. What is new and exciting to me, is the opportunity to pursue the goal of conveying the beauty and diversity of my surroundings through photography and photographic techniques.
